Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our people and partners

Safety and wellbeing

Safety is at the heart of what we do. We hold ourselves to the highest standards to protect our people, partners and places.

We continuously work on improving our safety performance with Group-wide initiatives including our annual Safety Stand Down, Safety Summit events and our monthly Safety Stars recognition programme.

Learn more about how we’re ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our people in our Sustainability Report 2024.

We value difference

We’re dedicated to creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can reach their potential, and our people-first approach to Inclusion and Diversity is championed by the Board and our Executive team.

Our employee networks are driving greater equality across the business, helping us to create a welcoming and rewarding place to work where everyone is encouraged to be their true self.

Our networks represent groups from across the business and include 91Թ Forces Community, 91Թ Carers Network, 91Թ Disability Network, 91Թ for Multiple Ethnicities, 91Թ Multi-Faith Network, 91Թ Gender Balance Network, Neuro-Diversity, Pride in 91Թ and our Young Professionals Network.

Our drive for gender balance helps us to attract and retain the best talent, with the aim to have at least 30% women in the business by 2030. Download our Gender Pay Gap report, and view our gender diversity table.

Supporting our communities

We’re committed to making a positive difference to the communities we’re proud to be a part of, providing high-quality jobs that support local economies.

We make sure we’re good neighbours by supporting the communities who both live and work alongside us. Our outreach and collaborative activities, through our donations, charitable sponsorship and volunteering, proudly support a range of military and local community causes.

We want to make a genuine difference to our communities and help them to thrive. In December 2022, we launched our global volunteering policy called ‘Be Kind Day’. Be Kind Day gives our employees one day each year to play an active part by volunteering for a charity or community group.

Indigenous peoples

We have a global presence, and recognise the importance of both supporting and engaging indigenous people in the countries we work in.

In Canada, we have transitioned from Phase II to Phase III of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business’ (CAAB) Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) programme, and we continue to engage indigenous communities and businesses across Canada.

Our business in Canada has added several indigenous businesses to the supply chain this year, and has laid the groundwork for significant, multi-year investments in indigenous skills development and training-to-employment.

In Australia, we partner with Supply Nation to expand our supply chain to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned businesses across the region. In New Zealand, we work within the Amotai initiative, expanding our supply chain and commitment to Māori and Pasifika owned businesses.

Creating futures. It’s what we do.

STEM matters to us.

We raise awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through our network of ambassadors who engage with around 885 schools in the UK: 534 primary schools, 231 secondary schools, 39 further education and 81 other events.

Recruiting, maintaining and developing the best talent is key to ensuring that we keep an excellent workforce with the capacity to meet our needs now, and in the future.

We have around 1,590 apprentices and graduates on programmes across 91Թ, as we support and empower young talent and give them the chance to work on some truly inspiring projects.
